Investors don’t only look at market size. They look at whether contracts are enforced, whether regulation is predictable, whether institutions are accountable, and whether the people a business depends on are healthy, educated, and able to work. A strong business in a weak operating environment still struggles to raise money, scale across borders, or keep its best people.
That is the ground this pillar covers. The business environment side looks at the rules and regulatory frameworks that businesses operate within. The governance side looks at the standards that build investor confidence. The social side covers the infrastructure that sustains a productive economy, including health and education, because a workforce is only as strong as the systems that prepare and support it.
It also speaks to something Dr. Ogho Okiti, our Founder and Convener, has described as central to why the Africa Business Convention exists: sound public policy is not always informed by the practical realities of business. BSG puts regulators, policymakers, and business leaders in the same conversation, so that evidence informs policy and policy
